Antimicrobials / Biostabilisers

Background
Antimicrobials are used to control the build up of bacteria, fungi and Algae on the surface of plastic products and textiles.  They can be added to formulations in the same way as other ingredients, by use of Masterbatch, Compound or topical treatments.

Action
Organics typically burst the cell wall to inhibit growth but this action has resulted in the removal from sensitive applications because of fears related to mutation capabilities. Biomaster in contrast is an in-organic antimicrobial based on silver ion technology and works in 3 subtle ways to reduce the bacteria safely to allay fears of mutagenicity;

THE ACTION OF BIOMASTER ANTIMICROBIAL TECHNOLOGY

1 (turquoise): Biomaster binds to the cell wall; preventing growth
2 (orange): Biomaster ions interrupt enzyme production; stopping the cell producing energy
3 (purple): Biomaster interrupts the cells DNA; preventing replication

Silver Ion Technology
The active substance in Biomaster is silver. Silver has been used in its pure form for many centuries to prevent the growth of bacteria. Incredibly durable, long lasting and highly active against bacteria, when Biomaster is added into a product it is dispersed throughout the entire item, will not wash off and lasts its active lifetime.

Efficacy
Biomaster is in-organic and non-leaching, which means unlike organic antimicrobial technologies it stays within the item into which it is added. Independently tested on over 50 different bacteria species on well over 2,000 applications, Biomaster have been proven to reduce the growth of harmful bacteria such as MRSA, E.coli, Campylobacter, Listeria, Salmonella and Legionella by 99.99%.

Biomaster in Healthcare
Facilities such as hospitals and care homes worldwide constantly battle the risk of cross infection from bacteria. These environments are prone to high levels of bacteria due to the constant flow of people and even when strict cleaning procedures are in place, bacteria can grow back immediately on a surface.

The use of Biomaster in environments such as hospitals provides round the clock protection against bacterial build up from harmful species such as MRSA, E.coli and Legionella. Once incorporated into a product, Biomaster becomes an integral part giving effective antimicrobial protection.

Biomaster for Food Hygiene
As well as being harmful to human health, outbreaks of food poisoning can damage brand owners and the reputation of stores and restaurants.

Biomaster provides an antimicrobial solution for any point in the food chain to reduce the risk of bacterial cross contamination. Biomaster treated products have been proven to reduce the growth of food borne bacteria such as E.coli, Salmonella and Campylobacter by up to 99.99% and works 24 hours a day, every day.

Biomaster in Everyday Items
Many items around the home and in communal places such as gyms, buses and trains are regularly touched by people. Play areas, grab handles and electronic devices are difficult to clean, or are infrequently cleaned thus allowing bacteria to multiply unhindered. When these items are passed from one person to another or receive frequent handling they are ideal sources of bacterial cross contamination.

Biomaster is easily added into almost any item found around the home and in key contact points in public spaces, dramatically reducing the amount of bacteria found on the item.

Biomaster in Construction/Building Materials
Hospitals, schools, gyms, hotels and cruise ships receive large amounts of human traffic and as a result are continually exposed to the risk of bacterial cross contamination. Typically these areas are warm with high amounts of environmental moisture, which gives bacteria a prefect breeding ground and as a result the opportunity to cross infect areas quickly.

Biomaster can be specified into any permanent features within buildings such as walls, floors, door handles, radiators, worktops and air-conditioning units.
